News, Edition 2 – Garden Committee Carnival

The Simberry Fields Nature Commission’s hard work paid off this past weekend, when the town’s Garden Committee put on a fun-filled carnival to raise funds for the city’s Community Botanical Gardens.  The gardens, which the Committee hopes to have in full bloom by the end of next simmonth, will be a place for the city’s inhabitants to go and relax, rejuvenate and enjoy nature within city limits.

The Committee’s spokessim, Neeve Boudin, says “The carnival was a huge success! We had such a fabulous time putting it together, and I think all of the visitors had a really fun time.”

Some of the highlights of the event were performances by local bands, including a special performance by the Simberry’s own Jimmie Page, who flew in from Apple Valley, where she’s recording her debut album, just for the occasion.

“It was an awesome opportunity,” says Page, 23. “I grew up in this city, and I know how beneficial a garden would be for the citizens. I was happy to help!”

Also, there were carnival games which visitors played for a small prizes, or chances to win one of the many gift-baskets donated fittingly by local florists and nurseries. One such game was “Dunk a Doctor”, where Dr. Abram Vogel – a specialist at Simberry Grace Hospital – offered himself up to be the dunkee to benefit the Committee. Dr. Vogel said that the highlight of his participation in the carnival was “to see my children giggle when someone was able to hit the targets and send ‘Dat’ into the water.”

In addition, there was a food booth were visitors could get a meal or snack prepared by some of the city’s premiere chefs.

Ms. Valencia Cabrera, neighborhood spokessim and a member of the Committee, told the Simberry Fields press “It was wonderful to see the entire community come together for a common purpose. We also had a lot of help from other communities around Sim Nation – most notably from Simmington Hills, where one family contributed enormously. We’d like to thank everyone who turned out for this event, everyone who contributed monetarily and otherwise, and everyone who had a hand in putting this together!”

On Sunday evening, as the crowds began to dwindle and it was time to close up shop, the Committee members could be found basking in the success of their effort.

“It was a great turn out,” said Committee member Dean Alexander, as he lounged with his fellow planners. “I’m new to these parts, and I was really surprised how much the community contributed. It’s awesome.”

“We’ve always been a rather tight-knit community,” commented renowned (and retired) architect Audrey Martinez with a smile, “Most of the time that isn’t a good thing, but this time, it was.”
